Important Flood Insurance Notice

During the last several years we have been advising you that your commercial or personal property insurance policies do not provide coverage from loss resulting from flood unless you purchase Flood Insurance through the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).  Because of our recent weather and our concern regarding the potential affect that global warming may have on the weather we are once again recommending to all our clients that they consider Flood Insurance.

Many of you in the past have asked that we provide quotations and some have elected to obtain the coverage.  For those of you that have not recieved a quotation or have elected not to purchase Flood Insurance we continue to recommend that the coverage be considered.  However, be advised that if you want Flood Insurance it cannot be effected until 30 days after receipt of the application.

Cell Phones & Driving....some info.

  • According to the New England Journal of Medicine, talking on a cell phone while driving quadruples the chances of getting into a motor vehicle accident.
  • The Harvard Center for Risk Analysis released a study estimation that 6% of the auto accidents in the U. S. each year could be attributed to cell phone use, linking the devices to 2,600 fatalities and 330,000 injuries.
  • Research commissioned by the British insurer Direct Line found that when talking on a hand-held mobile phone, drivers' reaction times were, on the average, nearly 50% slower than under normal driving conditions.

Cell phones play an intregral role in our society; however, the convenience they offer must be judged against the hazards they pose.

New I-9

In our never ending effort to deliver to you extraordinary levels of service and values we want you to know that on Wednesday November 7, 2007, the USCIS released a revised Employment Eligibility Verification Form (I-9) which is now available for use. It is a federal requirement that US employers complete an I-9 form for all employees within the first three days of employment, and retain the form for one year after termination of employment or three years, whichever is longer. While employers may start using the form immediately, it will officially become effective when posted in the federal register at a later date.

May we suggest that you reproduce the form using both sides of the paper, you may get a copy at http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-9.pdf

.  The instructions are two-sided as is the I-9 form.  Even though the employee fills out only the one side, the back side is the permissible document and you should be able to show the employee has seen the list of documents.

Should you have any questions regarding the new I-9 please feel welcome to call our office for assistance.
